When watching the playoff series between the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks, many Detroit fans feel the referees have performed poorly and missed a lot of calls in favor of the Knicks.
Even the referees admitted they blew a call Sunday as the final seconds ticked off. The missed call likely cost the Pistons the game.
In the final second, with the Pistons trailing by one point, 94-93, Pistons star Cade Cunningham missed a shot. Teammate Tim Hardaway Jr. grabbed the rebound and attempted a three-point shot but was clearly fouled by the Knicks' Josh Hart. No foul was called, and the game ended.
Hardaway would have had the opportunity to shoot three free throws and likely would have won the game, or at the very least, tied it.
After the game, NBA crew chief David Guthrie stated:
"During live play, it was judged that Josh Hart made a legal defensive play. After postgame review, we observed that Hart made body contact that was more than marginal with Hardaway Jr., and a foul should have been called."
The Pistons are now down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. They play in New York on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
