Crash at Lodge and Log Cabin (Google maps photo)
The 58-year-old driver of a Dodge Ram pick up truck driving the wrong way early Saturday morning on the southbound Lodge Freeway in Detroit crashed into a DDOT bus and died, the Michigan State Police report.
The bus driver and the driver of a Jeep who were struck by the pick up truck were both treated at the hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Police said they started to receive calls after 4 a.m. of a wrong-way driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of the Lodge. The crash occurred at the Lodge and Log Cabin.
The pick up truck immediately caught fire and troopers were unable to rescue the driver, who was pronounced dead on scene.
“At this time it hasn’t been determined where the wrong way driver entered the freeway and why they were going the wrong way.” said Lt Mike Shaw in a statement.
