Former Detroit police officer Dametri J. Wade pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to lying to FBI agents about his role in a larceny from a home.
Wade, 26, of Detroit, pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement when interviewed by the FBI on Dec. 19, 2022.
According to authorities, Wade was in patrol car on Aug. 11, 2022 outside a property on Saint Maron Street while suspects used false documents to make it appear as if they were carrying out a legal eviction.
Turns out they were simply stealing from the home while Wade, sitting in the partol car, made the fictitious eviction look all the more legit.
During an interview with the FBI Wade "lied about why he was at the location of the larceny," a court document said.
“Lying to law enforcement is never acceptable, but for an officer sworn to uphold the law to do so is inexcusable,” stated U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison in a statement.
