Who knew Gratiot was Detroit's most dangerous street that has recorded at least 40 deaths, 1,200 injuries in 2,542 crashes in the last five years?
Apparently, more than we realized.
Sam Krassenstein, chief of infrastructure for the city of Detroit, announced this week $12.5 million in state and federal monies to improve safety along the city's street, the Detroit News reports.
"You wouldn't know it from looking at it, but the speed limit on Gratiot is actually only 35 miles per hour," Krassenstein said, according to the News report. "And our goal is to get a road design that gets people to adhere to that speed."
