A man awaits arraignment in the murder of longtime Detroit disc jockey John O'Leary, 68, found Sunday with stab wounds in his Highland Park backyard on Candler Street, The Detroit News reports.
O'Leary's voice was familiar for nearly four decades at Detroit stations WWWW, WLLZ, WCSX and WABX.
"We have a suspect in custody, and he's awaiting arraignment," Highland Park Police Chief Johnny Thomas tells George Hunter of the paper. His name isn't released.
O'Leary's Linkedin page lists his last employment at 94.7 WCSX from 2002-13.
Longtime Detroit personality Peter Werbe posts on Facebook:
John's death was worse than I let on in my first post. Several of us suspected on Saturday that something was amiss when he didn't show up at Edo Raman as planned. We knew he had been murdered by Sunday, but wanted to get all of the details straight before going public.
John, a sweet and generous man, did not deserve this tragic end to his rich life. The circumstances of his death makes it even sadder.
